About This Herb

Triphala means 'three fruits' and is Ayurveda's most fundamental formula. This gentle yet powerful combination supports healthy digestion, regular elimination, and overall wellness. It is one of the rare formulations that benefits all body types and can be taken daily for life.

Where It Grows

Triphala is a combination of three medicinal fruits native to India. Emblica officinalis (Amalaki) grows widely in deciduous forests of India, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Terminalia bellirica (Bibhitaki) is found in dry deciduous forests across central and southern India. Terminalia chebula (Haritaki) grows in similar forest ecosystems throughout India. All three components thrive in warm tropical to subtropical climates and are cultivated throughout India, especially in forest regions and agricultural areas.

Ayurvedic Profile

The most universally prescribed formula in Ayurveda. Triphala is Tridoshic — it balances all three doshas simultaneously, which is exceptionally rare. Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) addresses Pitta, Bibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica) addresses Kapha, and Haritaki (Terminalia chebula) addresses Vata. Together they contain'all five tastes (Pancharasa). Described in virtually every classical text as both a daily Rasayana and a therapeutic formula. Rasa: Pancharasa (all five tastes). Virya: Anushna Sheeta (mildly cooling). Vipaka: Madhura (Sweet). Dosha: Tridoshic.
