Science & Research

A classical Pitta-pacifying formulation centered on Chandana (Sandalwood), indicated for mutrakricchra (dysuria), daha (burning sensations), and raktapitta (bleeding disorders). Sandalwood's α- and β-santalol demonstrate significant anti-inflammatory activity through inhibition of 5-LOX and prostaglandin E2 synthesis, alongside documented antispasmodic effects on smooth muscle. Gokshura provides protodioscin and terrestrosin saponins that support glomerular filtration rate and demonstrate lithotriptic (stone-dissolving) properties. Daruharidra's berberine alkaloid provides urinary antiseptic action through inhibition of bacterial biofilm formation. Camphor provides mild topical analgesic and antispasmodic effects on the urinary smooth muscle. This is a first-line formula for Pitta-aggravated urinary tract presentations.

Clinical Key Functions

  • Urinary antiseptic action via berberine biofilm inhibition*
  • Pitta-shamana (cooling) action on urinary and digestive mucosa*
  • Raktapitta management (cooling hemostatic action in bleeding disorders)*

Ayurvedic Philosophy

Chandanadi Bati is formulated on the principle of Pitta-shamana (Pitta pacification) through Sheeta Virya (cooling potency) herbs. Chandana (Sandalwood) is classified as the foremost Dahaprashamana (burning sensation-reliever) in the Charaka Samhita's Mahakashaya system. In Pitta pathology, Daha (burning), Mutrakricchra (painful urination), and Raktapitta (bleeding disorders) arise from vitiated Pachaka Pitta migrating to Mutravahasrotas (urinary channels) and Raktavahasrotas (blood channels). The treatment employs Sheeta-Madhura Dravyas (cooling-sweet substances) to directly oppose Pitta's Ushna-Tikshna Gunas (hot-sharp qualities). Gokshura adds Mutrala (diuretic) action to flush vitiated Pitta from the urinary tract, while Daruharidra provides Shothaghna (anti-inflammatory) action through its Tikta Rasa.
