About This Herb

Known as 'Indian Ginseng,' Ashwagandha is Ayurveda's most celebrated adaptogen — a herb that helps your body manage stress and maintain balance. It has been used for over 3,000 years to promote vitality, calm the mind, and support physical strength.

Where It Grows

Native to India, particularly found in dry regions of India, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. Cultivated extensively in India, especially in Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and West Bengal. Grows well in warm temperate to subtropical climates with annual rainfall of 600-1200 mm. Prefers well-drained sandy or loamy soils.

Ayurvedic Profile

Classified as a premier Rasayana (rejuvenative) and Balya (strength-promoting) herb. Ashwagandha is one of the few herbs that is both grounding (Vata-pacifying) and nourishing without being heavy. Its name means 'smell of the horse,' referring to the strength and vigor it imparts. In the Charaka Samhita, it is prescribed for Kshaya (tissue depletion), Vata disorders, and as a Vajikarana (reproductive tonic). Rasa: Tikta (Bitter), Kashaya (Astringent), Madhura (Sweet). Virya: Ushna (Heating). Vipaka: Madhura (Sweet). Dosha: Pacifies Vata and Kapha.

Key Benefits

Adaptogenic stress support, cortisol regulation, cognitive function, reproductive health, muscle strength, immune modulation
